Welcome to VYI Football
Vienna Youth Incorporated (VYI) Football is dedicated to providing a positive and supportive environment for young athletes to develop their skills, build character, and foster a lifelong love for football. As part of the Northern Virginia Youth Football League (NVYFL), VYI Football offers a structured program that emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Teamwork is essential in youth football for several reasons, each contributing to the overall development of young athletes on and off the field.
- Enhanced Performance: Teamwork allows players to anticipate each other's movements, create scoring opportunities, and defend cohesively, leading to improved overall performance and success in matches.
- Development of Social Skills: Participating in team sports like football helps young players develop essential social skills such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution. These skills are valuable not only on the pitch but also in personal and professional life.
- Increased Confidence and Self-Esteem: Being part of a supportive team boosts players' confidence and self-esteem. Knowing they have their teammates' backing encourages them to take risks and push their boundaries.
- Lifelong Friendships: The bonds formed through teamwork often lead to lifelong friendships. Shared experiences, challenges, and triumphs create strong connections that extend beyond the football field.
- Learning to Handle Success and Failure: Teamwork teaches young players how to handle both success and failure. Celebrating victories as a team reinforces the value of collective effort, while coping with losses together builds resilience and the ability to bounce back from setbacks.
Why Teamwork Works
- Fosters Trust and Respect: Coaches create an environment where players feel safe expressing themselves, making mistakes, and learning from them, fostering trust and respect within the team.
- Encourages Communication: Drills and activities that require players to communicate with each other help develop their communication skills.
- Promotes a Team-First Mentality: Emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the team's needs over individual desires helps build unity and a shared purpose.
- Sets Common Goals: Setting common goals aligns the team's efforts and motivates players to work together.
Overall, teamwork in youth football is crucial for developing football skills and life skills that benefit young athletes throughout their lives.
Our mission is to create a community where players can grow both on and off the field, under the guidance of experienced coaches and mentors. We strive to ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate, learn, and thrive in a safe and enjoyable setting.
Whether you are a seasoned player or just starting out, VYI Football invites you to join our family of dedicated athletes, coaches, and volunteers. Together, we aim to build a strong foundation for future success and create lasting memories for our players and their families.

2025 Season Enhancements
For the 2025 season, the age/weight matrix has been refined to enhance competition and participation. Key changes include limiting each division to three age groups instead of four and increasing flexibility in player placement. These reforms aim to:
- Enhance the level of competition.
- Increase enrollment and participation rates.
- Provide a more accurate matching of players by age.
- Align players more closely with their grade level through adjusted birth date eligibility.
Age and Weight Guidelines
The NVYFL uses an age and weight matrix to ensure balanced team composition and safety. Age is determined as of July 1st of the playing year.
