VYI Basketball is committed to ensuring fair games at the highest level of sportsmanship. The referees are the final authority on the basketball court and as such must have the training and character to accept that responsibility. 

VYI Basketball has a youth referee program for boys and girls in high school.  VYI will train these youth referees to officiate games for 3rd grade through 6th grade.  Once trained the youth referees will work with an established referee mentor to observe and provide feedback before officiating alone.  Youth referees must be in high school and at least four or five years older than the league they referee and attend VYI training sessions.  Training sessions will be held in late October/early November.   

Referee starting pay is $25 per game, whistles and referee shirts are provided.
